Hello! My name is Sunny Ervin, and I am a community herbalist located in Seattle, Washington, the traditional land of the Duwamish tribe.

I practice holistic herbalism in the western herbal tradition. This is a widely varying and largely eclectic system that traces back to ancient Greece (though the Greeks almost certainly learned much of what they are credited for from the Egyptians), and was, in some variation, the popular medicine in Europe and settler North America until the early 1900s.

Western herbal medicine, as it stands today, is an amalgamation of knowledge built over centuries upon centuries by herbal physicians, folk practitioners and medicine women, indigenous healers, witches, surgeons, hippies, and botanists, all researching in their own ways how we as humans can live in relation with plants and understand all they might have to offer us.

In my practice, I view the body as having an immense capacity to heal itself and maintain balance. Sometimes this requires support, whether from herbs, dietary and lifestyle changes, or something else. My job here is to work collaboratively with you to figure out some points of intervention, and to share remedies, tools and recommendations for preventative care and bringing things back into balance. I support health at any size.

For more information on what that might look like, see my consultations page.

About Me

I have been a student of herbalism since 2017. I studied intensively with Philadelphia-based Kenton Cobb, and then did my second year with Howie Brounstein at the Columbines School of Botanical Studies. I am currently studying advanced clinical skills with Ember Peters / Wild Current Herbalism, and have access to several great mentors. I recently worked for two years as an herbalist and herb buyer at Rainbow Natural Remedies in Seattle, I am currently on a break from day-jobbing to finish a degree in gender studies.

In my spare time, you may find me listening to herbalism lectures, cooking something adventurous, taking walks in Beacon Hill or hikes in the Cascades, dancing at the gym, binding books for a small press, and spending time with my partner.
